A Mom’s Resume: What It Takes To Be a Mom and Grandmother

As moms, we usually don’t take time to celebrate ourselves because we don’t really feel like we’ve accomplished anything.  So today I celebrate my accomplishments as a mom and Mimi (Grandma).  I want to encourage others by writing about my resume as a mom/Mimi.

My daughters are 29 years old and 25 years old. I have four grandchildren ages six, four, two and 8 months old.

Here is my Mom/Mimi Resume.

As the MOM of  grown children….

I love that my girls still call me to share their successes, dreams, hopes and disappointments.  Here are a few of the questions I get now:

  • What do you think I should do, mom?
  • I had a test today. I did good, mom.
  • I only have one more semester mom. Can you believe it mom?
  • Mom, I got a 99% on my test.
  • I set the curve, mom. And to that I reply, “I knew you could.”
  • I’m still the ‘cheerleader mom’.

Now I’m a Mimi

  • Some days, I arrive before the sun rises and I leave after the sun sets
  • The Mimi who reads, celebrates, plays dress up, plays hair, plays outside, teaches kindness and models apologizing.
  • The ‘waterfall’ Mimi when playing outside with the garden hose.
  • The Mimi who loves with all of her heart, who fixes boo boos, who wipes away boo boo tears, who sees the morning smiles and who has cuddle time.

I have been a teacher, reading coach, assistant principal and principal.  And through all of that, I worked through the worst diagnosis of my life, and I kept working because I wanted to keep my family routine as normal as possible. In the “mom role” and the “Mimi role”, there is one central theme and that is to keep God first.  Also, to make sure my daughters and grandchildren know that their mom/Mimi loves them and loves Jesus.

Of all my achievements, I am most honored to have the role of mom and Mimi.

I want to encourage all of you to write your Mom Resume.  You may surprise even yourself.

Be blessed.

  1. I love this and how you listed all the various ways God has used you. I think Proverbs 31 can be overwhelming at times but I think women’s lives are much more versatile than men’s. Our lives transform into how God needs us to grow and love others. Thank you for sharing this insight into how God has made you a vessel that honors Him.
